Featured Artist Rhoda Teplow

Rhoda Teplow is our Featured Artist for November. Rhoda is known for her work with recycled beads from the Krobo tribe in Ghana, Czechoslovakian glass combined with hand-made lamp worked beads, and semi-precious stone beads straight from Chengdu, China. The city of Chengdu has an enclave of Tibetans who sell gorgeous beads in the shape of grapes often carved with Tibetan prayers for malas, prayer bracelets.
"I am fascinated by the stories of my beads as some are 200 years old. Some were used to trade with American Indians and African traders, and some Czechoslovakian beads were hidden from the Nazis. Most of the beads are glass, some are recycled glass from the Krobo tribe in Ghana, some are semi-precious gems, bone or crystal. As I look at my collection, the beads call out to me and tell me which colors to put together. There seems to be a rhythm created when the shapes and patterns find each other," - -Rhoda Teplow

Janis Porter, Edward Duarde At Mendocino Rotary Art Auction

"Fall Colors" Watercolor by Janis Porter

Artworks by Edgewater Gallery Members Edward Duarde and Janis Porter have been selected by the Mendocino Rotary Club for this important event. The proceeds from the auction and the sale of raffle tickets are returned to the communities of the North Coast in a variety of grants and scholarships. Deserving students receive help with their college tuition, and we sponsor both incoming and outgoing exchange students. Grants are also awarded to a variety of local non-profit organizations working in the areas of youth, health, safety and cultural enrichment.

The Mendocino Rotary Club, sponsor of the Mendocino Art Auction, is also a sponsor of the Mendocino Summer Arts Showcase. The Arts Showcase is a cooperative venture of Rotary, the Mendocino Music Festival, the Mendocino Art Center, the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, the Gloriana Musical Theatre, and WineSong!

The auction will take place at the Mendocino Art Center in Mendocino, California on October 9, 2010. Art can be previewed beginning October 2.

Open Studio Tour

Five of our Edgewater Gallery Artists are participating in the Open Studio Tour sponsored by the Mendocino Art Center. Robin Randall, Janis Porter, Chris Schomer, Rhoda Teplow and Sunshine Taylor will be among the artists featured on the tour, September 18, 19 and September 25 and 26, 2010. A preview of the tour's art will take place at the Mendocino Art Center September 5-30, 2010.

Robin Randall, Edgewater Gallery Featured Artist For September

Robin Randall has been named Edgewater Gallery's Featured Artist for the month of September. Robin is a nature lover who has found a path of expression through her equally great love art. An oil and acrylic painter, Robin uses both media to explore shape, texture and color. She has also created a line of jewelry that further expresses her devotion to her art.

Janis Porter, Featured Artist

Janis Porter was named Edgewater Gallery's Feature Artist of the month forAugust, 2010. The artist's reception took place on Friday, August 6, 2010 and featured music and champagne. Working in water color, her representational paintings lean toward the slightly abstract.
