Local water colorist David Sil veira featured at Edgewater Gallery

Fort Bragg artist David Silveira brings his renowned water color scenes of North Coast harbors, piers, boats and bridges front-and-center as featured artist for November at the Edgewater Gallery, 356 N. Main St., near Laurel.  His show begins on First Friday, Nov. 4, 5-8 p.m.
A Mendocino coast native with a degree in art from Cal State Hayward, Silveira uses subtle earth tones and demure hues to show the effect time and the elements have had upon natural and manmade objects.  Variations of light, shadow and texture evoke the many somber moods of the coast.

Edgewater was founded in 2003 and has nearly 20 full-time and guest members who offer a variety of artistic mediums, from jewelry and ceramics to oils, watercolors, photography, and sculpture.  The gallery is open 10 to 5 daily and until 6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Unique Mirrors, Paper Artistry at Edgewater for August

Steve Chell’s mixed media mirrors and Jackie Gardener’s paper-on-wood collage pieces will be featured at the Edgewater Gallery in Fort Bragg during August, with an opening presentation set for First Friday, August 5, 5-8 p.m.

Edgewater will present its regular wine and cheese refreshments for the First Friday celebration at the gallery, located at 356 N. Main St. near Laurel.

Chell’s one-of-a-kind “reflektions” mirrors feature strips of flame-treated copper, metal wire, textured glass, and other striking materials, along with bronze, gray and copper mirror, in contemporary designs that enhance any décor.  They range in size from 8”X10” to 28”X72”.  In addition, he will debut his “abstraktions” photographs that highlight colors, shapes, patterns, and textures.  Many of his photos are used as colorful accents under the textured glass strips on his mirrors.  Chell is in his second year as a member of the artist-owned gallery.

Gardener is the gallery’s “Edgewater Welcomes …” guest artist for August.  Well-represented in coastal galleries, Gardener began her paper art by creating handmade books. She focused on using paper in new ways, creating origami boxes, upholstering small cabinets and bread boxes, and developing her own tightly balanced style of collage with three dimensional “word monuments.” Gardener earns praise for her attention to detail and precision workmanship in carefully blending myriad papers into harmonious and complex structures. Gardener hand paints many of her papers. Many of her recent redwood block structures have been shaped in house forms; others are clever wordplay items for wall display.

‘Tapas!’ on tap at Edgewater Gallery for July

Serving pieces for today’s popular tapas will be out of Christine Schomer’s kiln and into the spotlight at the Edgewater Gallery in Fort Bragg during July, with an appropriate tapas food presentation for First Friday, July 1, 5-8 p.m.

Edgewater will offer sangria and featured artist Schomer will extend her artistry to making and serving tapas to First Friday visitors. The gallery is at 356 N. Main St. near Laurel.

Schomer will present colorful tumblers for serving sangria or port, along with matching complimentary small plates for serving the accompanying finger foods appropriate for tapas. During her seven years at Edgewater, she also has been recognized for her koi paintings and other Japanese-themed work.

Tapas originated in Spain.  Bartenders would put plates on “top” of the glasses of port and other wines to keep fruit flies away, and soon they were putting savory bites of food on the plates.  Tapas gained in popularity as a way to encourage conversation because people are not so focused upon eating an entire meal set before them

Sunshine and Chocolate

‘Sunshine & Chocolate’ at Edgewater Gallery’s First Friday Event for May
Edgewater Gallery’s First Friday celebration on May 6 will feature the opening of north coast artist Sunshine Taylor’s mixed media show titled “Callas on My Mind,” and a chocolate truffle-tasting presented by Shelley Fields of Wicked Bonbon.

Edgewater Gallery is at 356 North Main St. near Laurel, and the First Friday event is from 5-8 p.m.  Chocolates, produced in Fort Bragg, will be available for purchase as a possible Mothers’ Day gift or for your personal enjoyment.

Taylor’s show highlights her “signature” paintings since she’s lived on the verdant Pacific Coast -- the white glowing Calla lilies that pop up everywhere imaginable.  Her sophistication and skill in rendering the stately flowers has continued to flourish over her years of living amongst the tall, swaying beauties.

In addition to the chocolate truffle-tasting, wine and light refreshments will be served at the opening.  Edgewater Gallery, established in 2003, is an artist-owned cooperative of 17 artists that also features guest artists each month.  Paintings, jewelry, ceramics, sculpture and other creations are featured at the gallery, open from 10-5 daily.
