Serving pieces for today’s popular tapas will be out of Christine Schomer’s kiln and into the spotlight at the Edgewater Gallery in Fort Bragg during July, with an appropriate tapas food presentation for First Friday, July 1, 5-8 p.m.
Edgewater will offer sangria and featured artist Schomer will extend her artistry to making and serving tapas to First Friday visitors. The gallery is at 356 N. Main St. near Laurel.
Schomer will present colorful tumblers for serving sangria or port, along with matching complimentary small plates for serving the accompanying finger foods appropriate for tapas. During her seven years at Edgewater, she also has been recognized for her koi paintings and other Japanese-themed work.
Tapas originated in Spain. Bartenders would put plates on “top” of the glasses of port and other wines to keep fruit flies away, and soon they were putting savory bites of food on the plates. Tapas gained in popularity as a way to encourage conversation because people are not so focused upon eating an entire meal set before them
Edgewater was founded in 2003 and has nearly 20 full-time and guest members who offer a variety of artistic mediums, from jewelry and ceramics to oils, photography, and sculpture.
